On Sunday, August 18, more than 90 racers queued up at the start line for the Running of the Moskus, a fund-raising 5-K and half marathon race in Kangerlussuaq.
Organized by Susan Whitley, Kanger Operations Assistant Coordinator, and co-sponsored CH2MHILL, the New York Air National Guard’s 109th Airlift Wing and Polar Field Services, the race was a giant success, thanks to the many volunteers who helped coordinate.
All told, there were 96 runners, at least 25 of whom were kids. These little ones kept everyone smiling and were immensely proud of their accomplishment.
More than $4,000 was raised for local schools through race registration and the purchase of extra T-shirts, which are still available. Proceeds will be donated to local schools.
“The weather was miraculously nice for the race, even though it was forecasted to be raining or snowing,” wrote Whitley in her race report. “We did get a short downpour at 2:00 pm, which drove everyone away from the BBQ. But luckily all of the food had been served and the awards ceremony finished by then.”
Thanks to everyone for all of their help. We are thrilled to be part of such a community event.
Until next time, happy trails!
